WebPredict is a pretty simple concept: it helps a person find web content they'll like by learning what that person is interested in and then highlighting links of interest while the person surfs the web (via a Firefox add-on). See current not very good screenshots on WebPredict.net for an example. It's closest conceptually to something like StumbleUpon, but with some significant differences.
The bottom line for this project: what we really need is to polish up our existing site and make it immediately clear on the front page what the service is about and why it's useful. Also, we want to display some interesting user activity, though maybe not as much as we are now (see second page after the front page on our site via the Try It button).
Site designs that we like:
We do not need to keep our current color scheme, though a predominantly blue background is preferable. You can tweak the logo colors as well if needed to make things work cosmetically.
Note: we will have more work to do for the winning designer!
People who use Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, i.e., avid web surfers who would appreciate new ways to find fresh content that's of interest to them. The point of WebPredict is to make it easier for people to find this fresh content immediately, from any page that they're on (as opposed to having to go to some other site and browse submitted links or something like that), which they do via the add-on piece. The main site's purpose is to get people familiar with the concept and show some active community (and potentially let people discover other users with similar interests, etc), as well as to let power users tune the prediction service to their own particular preferences (the My Account page).
We would like 2 pages made over and two small templates:
1. very slick, clear (in terms of purpose/usefulness) front page, which should conceptually merge elements of the existing front page and second page (see the Try It button page) containing the following:
-some graphical example that makes it immediately clear what the concept is and why it's useful. It does not need to be screenshots like it is now, but it could be.
-button to download Firefox add-on
-some user activity (e.g., recently rated pages, user profiles, comments, etc.)
2. Cleanup for the initial page + header shown when a user logs in. Should have at least a presentable tabbed design to replace the feature buttons the user sees now on login, and maybe some tips on how best to use the service and what pages seem most interesting/highly rated recently by WebPredict users.
3. slick table template that goes with the site's color scheme (see History tab once you have any ratings history for an example of where this template will be used)
4. slick form template (see My Account area after login for existing form that needs improvement)
Feel free to deviate wildly from what's on our site now (cosmetically)! We're open to ideas/suggestions not mentioned here. We're even open to significant color scheme changes.
Note: please remove the 'our sponsors' sections (fake ads).
