Zing Information Services
Heather Negley is a information consultant who has worked in the library and media industries for 15 years. I most recently worked for the Library of Congress before starting my own business. I currently own and operate a small consulting company called Zing Information Services in Virginia.
I am launching HelpALibrarian.com as a service of Zing. My goal is to connect librarians globally to share information and enhance cultural understanding.
I am targeting librarians all over the world. They can be any type of librarian or information professional. Reference librarians would most like to use the service to ask questions that may have them stumped them.
Librarians love to answer questions, especially from other librarians. They also love to help.
As far as requirements, I am looking for a design that is modern and fun.
Ask and Join should be in prominent locations
For example, I really like use of boxes on Gist (http://www.gist.com/) and the color blue that they use. The simpler, the better.
Zing has a logo that you are welcome to use. (http://www.zinginformation.com) I like the color orange in it.
I like the way that HelpAReporter [http://www.helpareporter.com/] has Reporters and Sources in prominent locations.
Core Purpose: Libraries and librarians have helped people find information since ancient times. New technologies have transformed information from books to bytes. Now with more information than ever before, the role of librarians to guide us has never been more important. Now it is time to come together and empower one another through a collective effort.
Core Values: connect all the librarians throughout the world, so they can help each answer questions, share knowledge and enhance cultural understanding.
The site map is as follows
Ask and Join pages
Learn More pages: (How it works) these pages don't have to be in the main navigation. but can be next to the Ask and Join tabs
Design for following boxes:
Enter a question in the DB;
Edit your user info
For the logo, can you make it look similar to the wrangler jean logo? Just text.
I've also attached a design scope document to explain my ideas a little more in depth.
