Create an elementary school t-shirt design that includes an astronaut

Job Background: This is a t-shirt design for K-5th graders at an elementary school, around 500 children total. All of the teachers purchase group shirts for their classes. We offer multiple colors of shirts as choices and multiple colors of ink. The design needs to be a one color design with an outline that will work on dark or light shirts ( Keep in mind that shadows/shading looks very different when reversed from dark to light ink.)
The design should be elementary school child friendly, a cartoon, and should include an astronaut, which is the school mascot, outerspace, the wording Harrison Schmitt Elementary, and the year 2015-2016.
Realistic art is not what they are looking for, child like designs are best. The design should be fun and playful.

The design I have attached is what we did last year and it was received very well. I have attached both versions of last years art for an example of the dark and light versions I am looking for.
