We're a pre-launch Mobile Dating service, initially offering date planning funcationality to people on dates who are looking for something fun and adventurous to do, instead of the same old dinner date/movie/bar hopping experience.
Our app is a cross between Foursquare and the Amazing Race, a mobile social game and itinerary planner... Essentially, we provide the "recipe for love", so couples can concentrate on getting to know each other.
Our target market initially is anyone on a date looking for something new and interesting to do off the beaten path, or in an unfamiliar location (on vacation, just moved to town, etc). Once we add beta matching engine functionality, we'll also focus specifically on unpaired fun-loving singles
Our product is not for the extremely timid, or those afraid of social media technologies.
Essentially, I'd like to keep the design process as open as possible. We would like imagery to be "icon friendly" - to be able to maintain design consistency with the app icons, website/favicon, business cards, twitter avatar, etc down the line.
We want to be highly differentiated from existing dating site logos (match.com, eharmony.com, okcupid.com, plentyoffish.com, chemistry.com, zoosk.com), while still evoking the ideas of love and romance. Colors should be warmer, not necessarily bright, but avoid pastels/softer colors. We don't want to fade into the background!
We're still playing with taglines at this point, but the name NaviDate comes from the ideas of "navigating through a date", or even "a gps navigation system for dating". Something that incorporated these themes (but NOT the exact wording) would be ideal, but I don't initially want to limit things too much.
Thanks, and look forward to seeing some initial designs to help guide us to that perfect contest winner!
UPDATE - 1/21/2010: Attached a quick set of sketches for additional design ideas based on what I'm seeing. Not requirements per se, but hopefully helpful?
