SUMO Software
SUMO Software is the new product development arm of One Lauter Inc., a software development services company. We wanted a more marketable name and image for software product sales. The name was chosen because the owner of the company is a pretty big guy. The inspiration came from a small sumo wrestler figurine brought back by a friend from a trip to Japan. SUMO is based in Clearwater, Florida. We oddly balance the low-key Florida attitude with intensity that comes from being passionate about developing rock solid software systems.
The target audience is anyone who would buy stuff from us because we have a wicked logo, right? Probably anyone who would download and install free software from a website (logo needs to generate trust), or would sign up for membership of a web-based software system.
The logo should denote power and balance. At the same time it must convey a sense of humor that says while we don't take ourselves too seriously, we are professional and serious about what we're serious about. In a perfect world when someone outside our company sees the logo for the first time they should laugh - at least smile. That's why they'll remember who we are.
We're an American company and the logo should look American - not eastern.
Colors:
Florida Retro is better - think 1972 Miami Dolphins
Fonts:
No Asian letters - we're not a Chinese buffet.
Big, BOLD, in your face.
Here's the figurine that inspired the name:

The logo should look a lot like the figurine - cartoony, balanced on one leg, etc.
