Golf Naked
Golf Naked is the grass-roots brain-child of an unlikely pair of passionate golfers. The game of golf, its audience and appeal have changed considerably in the last 20 years, but golf style pretty much reflects the same conservative, country-club aesthetic that it had when the game gained popularity a century and more ago.
What if an inspired company could change the game's character one envelope-pushing, attention-grabbing piece of tchotchke at a time? Golf Naked could be that company. On the other hand, we could just be a pair of crazy golfers tuned into the real phenomenon of a game whose fans are variously passionate & obsessed, zen-spiritual, urban cool, and slightly whacked that want to share our mania with a like-minded tribe of fanatics.
We've played rounds bantering about a full line of skate/snowboard/surf-inspired golf apparel. Since we're working-class Joes on a shoe-string budget, however, the logo will debut on various small production items, including t-shirts, hats & visors, mugs & shot glasses, golf tees, golf towels, hat clips, etc.
Our friends at Meridiansix design put up a splash page for us. We like the hint of 007 in the typo name. We're not married to it (neither are they), but it is fun. Check it out at golfnaked.com.
Golf Naked's target market includes avid golfers ages 14 to 49 (Gen Y to Gen X). Some of them belong to country clubs, but most of them are weekend warriors on public courses. They are young, vibrant, impassioned people. They're subtly rebellious teens, suits, working-class Joes, and urban hipsters. They're individuals and want to express their personalities both on the course and during the 160-or-so hours they're not playing golf each week. They're predominantly men. Golf Naked invites fanatics at all income levels to participate in the Golf Naked experience.
A few angles worth exploring include the not-so-secret double-life of golfers; the new game of golf; and the zen-spiritual experience of golf, where to "golf naked" is to golf with a clear mind and free of inhibitions.
We need a logo and typographic representation of the Golf Naked identity. The logo will appear in digital format on web and social media sites; board stickers & bumper stickers; screenprinted on t-shirts; writ small on divot tools and golf balls (the size of a quarter); writ even smaller (just the name) on the side a golf tee; embroidered on hats, visors, golf towels, polo shirts, golf shirts; etc.
The identity should be edgy yet subtle. The Golf Naked revolution happens from within - it is not forced from without.
RESTRICTIONS: No argyle; not raunchy (play with nudity, just keep it taseful); dimensions should be approximately round or square. The COLOR PALETTE is wide open but, for obvious reasons, green & white have predominated our thoughts on the matter.
FINAL FILES should be vector format, editable in an Adobe CS program or QuarkXress, plus high-quality raster files (tiffs or jpegs), so non-designers like us can view and use them.
