The school has identified attachment #3 as an image that provides some context for the type of image they would like to have. This is NOT an image that currently belongs to the school and should not be copied. Rather, it reflects the type of image that has already generated interest among the students and faculty of the school.
The logo should only include the head of a knight only, and should not be an image of a full body of a knight
The school’s current logo (attachment #2), can be, but does not need to be included somewhere within the mascot. One idea is that school logo could be included in a marginal way somewhere within the mascot graphic. For example, the logo could be used as a flag held on a pole behind/in front of the knight. This is not a requirement but an idea about how it might be used. The school is also open to other ideas.
If the school's logo is used or included, it cannot be modified in any way. The font, color, proportionality, etc. cannot be adjusted. The font is called Knockout_HTF29-JuniorLiteweight. The navy color is called Pantone 281 U.
Target demographic for mascot – urban middle and high school students, low-income, male, and female students of color, east coast demographic.
The school is a nationally respected and high academic achieving school where 100% of students are admitted to 4 year colleges.
The students at the school live by a set of values that include honor, respect, integrity, dignity, and community service. The knight should not be depicted graphically to be “violent” or “aggressive.”
While the school has used the Knight as a type of mascot in the past, the school has never had a graphic image that formally represents or depicts the Knight. Given that the school represents a demographic that is urban, low-income, students of color, the school prefers that the knight NOT reflect traditional European images of knights and knighthood (e.g. Don Quixote, King Arthur).
North Star Academy is a college preparatory high school and so the logo of the knight should simultaneously be sensitive to the school’s urban context AND to the school’s mission of preparing ALL students for college. Aesthetically, the logo should reflect the school’s urban context while imparting a sense of understated refinement associated with a college preparatory school.
Proportionality/Size of Graphic Image – The selected graphic image will be used in multiple contexts but one major use will be for display on the center court of a new basketball gymnasium. The size/proportionality of the image must be able to fit well with the dimensions of the center court space. A layout of the basketball court is attached (attachment #1) for further context. The center court graphic should fit within the center of the 6' diameter center court circle, but the drawing shows it fitting in a 5'-10" x 6'-4" rectangle.
Lastly, the image should be visually appealing in color and in gray scale.
