Creating a new consulting organization focused on product development, strategy and design. I am the founder and president and intend to use this company to promote my services and build personal and organizational brand recognition. I am also planning to use this company to develop new and exciting web 2.0 products and concepts based on my 15yrs of experience in product design and development. The culture and personality of the company should be focused on new technologies and startups but should be professional and appealing to a broad audience. I draw a lot of inspiration from simple and minimalist designs.
This is a service based business in the business to business marketplace. For the most part, I will target early stage and startup companies who need help with product concepts, development, design and strategy. The audience will often be very design savvy and will be drawn to a mixture of sleek, modern design with a little bit of the young, energetic "startup" vibe we see online everyday (not the stuffy design of established service businesses, like law firms, accountancies, management consultancies, etc). Think about a young, energetic, go-getter customer/audience who is also sophisticated, business savvy and not easily fooled.
The previous set of information should provide enough to get going as I don't want to be too specific and stifle your creative ideas and concepts. The company name is "Variant" which should stand for "not your typical way of doing things"... "a different (varied) perspective"... "not your everyday, typical products"... etc. You get the idea.
This logo will lay the foundation for all other designs associated with starting a company, especially for the website (likely requiring a future custom wordpress theme).
NEW INFORMATION: Have change name from "Variant Consulting" to just "Variant"
I would like the design to be simple with an image of some sort that gives the perception of variances, changes, differences without necessarily just using the letter "V" in a different way.
I made the mistake of looking for designs with tints, shadows, reflections, etc but think this is actually the wrong direction. The design needs to be simple, and evoke the appropriate sense of the brand. It needs to work on the website but also on print (both color and black and white). All designs should be presented in color and also in black and white against both black and white backgrounds.
This link represents a set of logo designs and styles that I really like:
