We just launched this greenhouse at the New York Green Festival on Earth Day. Our Facebook page MyTerraceFarmer has seen extensive interest since that show - over 26,000 Weekly Total Reach up over 6,400 percent! Perhaps it's because it's more than a greenhouse...for the cost of a home theater system you family can have some additional food security, emergency preparedness, education, and community. Still our biggest obstacle is sticker shock to consumers who buy cheap greenhouses that are difficult to assemble and fall apart after one or two seasons.

Need an infographic to help explain lifecycle cost savings - why a cheap greenhouse (e.g. $300) actually costs more than a $1500+ greenhouse over a period of years.

We'll be explaining the cost savings more but like many green investments we're looking at lifecycle costs. Sure, you can buy really cheap greenhouses but they usually last only a few seasons whereas we are willing to give a lifetime warranty on our deluxe model. Cheap greenhouses also take a long time to assemble (maybe a couple of weekends versus one afternoon) and time is money. Our web monitoring might save the life of your plant investment. Our system is designed to minimize inputs - very efficient energy usage, using food scraps instead of buying fertilizer or feed, collecting rain water. We also include emergency preparedness features that are harder to quantify - after a severe storm maybe having access to emergency drinking water or charging your mobile phone is worth more. The other thing we hope to do is launch a Kickstarter campaign in May so we can provide units at cost to schools, community groups and centers. We can lower costs only with volume. We pay extra for materials such as a BPA-free, 70% recycled plastic deep (7") tray that was cast by solar power. We're working on graphs/images to convey some of the anticipated savings (e.g. the cost of buying a package of fresh herbs every week say from Whole Foods).
