We need a powerful new brand and logo to unlock the power of big financial data for public good

As part of the Data Driven Innovation (DDI) innovation network, the Global Open Finance Centre of Excellence (GOFCoE) are working to enable consumers and businesses to safely unlock the potential of their economic data, as a force for good globally. Hosted by the Edinburgh Futures Institute, and led by the University of Edinburgh, FDATA and FinTech Scotland, GOFCoE will deliver six key objectives: Catalyse financial data collaboration in a trusted environment to enable research and innovation, thus accelerating industry adoption of Open Finance at scale Decrease time-to-market and development costs, thereby improving start-up survival, attracting inward investment, securing jobs and creating export opportunities Train new talent to enable sectoral expansion Undertake data-driven research to create knowledge of financial behaviours and deliver wider social and economic benefits for all Work with regulators to establish ethical standards and best practice to ensure public trust Build local, national and international partnerships to achieve financial sustainability GOFCoE are building a trusted data ‘Global Economic Observatory’ (GEO) facility, enabling research and innovation with new data sets, donated for research purposes, to accelerate open finance and solve relevant challenging societal, economic and environmental issues. GOFCoE is uniquely pioneering data-based services to provide Innovation, Research and Talent Development in order to realise the benefits of Open Finance. With a core purpose to unlock the potential of customer financial transactional data as a force to improve lives, it is a global first. GOFCoE is set up to work with private, public, third and academic sectors, and focusing on areas of the market that can only be really solved through collaboration and diverse thinking. The first GEO project is COVID-19 related; we are currently working with Financial Services organisations in the UK (banks and Accounting platforms) and the UK government to curate and securely host combined, de-identified financial data sets and undertake research into the economic impacts of the pandemic on the UK economy: specifically analysing both citizen and SME data. We’d like to showcase this project as a case study to illustrate our robust approach to data governance and feature testimonials from key partners. GOFCoE will focus on UK relationship development in the first 3 years, then will accelerate global relationships. Overview of GOFCoE key service areas: GOFCoE has recently been awarded £22.5m by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to achieve its purpose and is the first flagship initiative from the £600m Data Driven Innovation programme being undertaken at the University of Edinburgh. GOFCoE needs to raise a further £30M from external partners over the next five years as it targets financial sustainability by 2026/27. The website will be a key component in delivering this objective. 2. Who is our audience? GOFCoE sits within the wider academic, open data/finance and innovation ecosystem and thus we have several key stakeholders, not limited to, but including: Financial Services in the UK and internationally: fintechs (including Accounting platforms), the banks, Credit Reference Agencies, trade associations, pensions, insurers, payment companies, asset manager etc. Academic institutions and partners UK business/financial press and journalists The UK/Scottish Government and bodies The public (this is a project in the public interest) - UK as focus The regulators (the ICO, FCA, the CMA) Prospective partners and employees (I.e. data scientists) Potential global partners/collaborators Our audience is UK and international. Our key focus for our presentation material is prospective data providers: so financial institutions like banks and FinTechs.
